A Pig's Tale: Pig Named Six Seven Spared by Miami-Dade Mayor.

Although not quite at the identical stature as granting clemency to holiday birds, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ceremoniously saving the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. No offenses are on her docket,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of executive clemencies issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating half a dozen apples per day,” the mayor added. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life without fear.”

This ceremony, simultaneously observing and challenging the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was founded to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was named for the current slang trend of young people yelling “6-7” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The trend became so widespread that a prominent word reference recently declared “six-seven” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Peaceful Retirement

The pardoned swine is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the event’s official press release.

“This swine clemency has become a beloved tradition to open the festive period,” said the event host, in a decidedly positive message.

“It captures the spirit of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Annually, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”

Attendees enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
