Arne Slot Maintains He Is Safe and Retains The Club's Backing After PSV Loss

Arne Slot acknowledged that it's natural for questions to be asked about his position following another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve games, marking the team's poorest streak after being demoted in 1953-54.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie champions on a punishing night at Anfield.

“I am feeling safe, I'm fine, I've received significant support from management,” the coach commented.

“It's important to turn it around and get a victory naturally but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that people question you.”

He added, “I accept my position. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a tough spot but it's crucial that we turned it around.”

Talks with The Board

When asked to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, Slot explained:

“We communicate frequently. They are supportive to the team and to me and those talks happen but they don’t call me every single minute of the day to say they have faith in me.”

He added, “In the normal conversations we have I sense the confidence. But I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so it remains to be seen.”

Persistent Issues and Player Reaction

Slot expressed regret over familiar failings from his team in their European loss, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.

“I haven't got the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I'm telling that to all,” the midfielder said.

“It's simply unacceptable. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the phrases.”

He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the side I follow. I’m a fan, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a period of this nature with performances like these.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always compete.”

“We’re going to try to help the side return to its rightful place, show everyone once more what this club is about and the reason it's called the greatest side in the planet.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and we have to turn it around.”
