Battlefield 6's Casual Game Mode Sparks Heated Discussions Over Bots, Experience Points, and Queue Times

Over the weekend, the game developers launched a fresh playlist called Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this mode mirrors the regular Breakthrough format but features several key adjustments:

  • Each team has only eight human participants, with the rest filled by AI-controlled opponents.
  • Activities performed by human gamers grant full XP, while bot actions offer lower rewards.
  • Only two locations can be played: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Features like Player tags, accolades, and career stat updates have been turned off.

So essentially, the playlist lives up to its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. At face value, one could assume it's a good idea, as it gives more options for gamers seeking alternative methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it's that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, many BF6 players are upset.

Player Responses: From Fury to Support

"Gamers prefer human opponents. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking concept," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "I have no idea where we are going with this game," and another details everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, address drone issues, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, there are players sharing how much they're liking the new mode. "It's very fun to practice, real players keep it from being a complete grind but it's very relaxed," says a forum post. "This subreddit doesn't understand that there are players who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to strike a balance," states a different comment. A response via social media explains that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is great for me," and another applauds the mode for "not being overcompetitive."

Constructive Criticisms and Player Input

Despite the support, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. Some users have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for different playlists due to the large amount of options in the game already. Similarly, some areas often face AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. It also seems somewhat counterintuitive that the mode won't start without a minimum number of real players, despite it primarily centers on combat against bots.

Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that Battlefield Portal was promised to provide full XP, even against bots, but that was removed when they tried to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, according to forum feedback. A different user labels this addition as the developers "making a mistake significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, why did they feel the need to change it?"

Future Prospects: Adjustments Occur?

If the development team has proven anything so far with Battlefield 6, it is that they're listening and responding to feedback. Tasks being too difficult got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. Chances are that, if their data shows this new playlist is underperforming to their standards, they won't be shy to make further modifications.
