Britain Set to Utilize Frozen Russia's Assets to Fund the Ukrainian War Effort
The UK is ready to advance with employing the entire amount of frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine's war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has declared.
In a joint statement, the leaders of the Britain, France, and Germany asserted that this unified step would increase strain on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and persuade Russia to come to the table.
They clarified that the move would be implemented in strong partnership with the America.
British penalties have immobilized over £25bn of Russian assets since Moscow began its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. But, until now, funds sent to Ukraine using Russia's funds had solely been sourced from earnings and returns generated on them.
Sir Keir told Ukraine's leader Volodymyr Zelensky that the Britain, France, and the Federal Republic of Germany were aligned in their aim to advance efforts toward employing the total worth of the immobilized Moscow's national holdings to conclude the conflict.
He stated that additional restrictions in the coming days and weeks would increase the strain on Moscow.
This announcement follows European Union representatives convened in the Danish capital last week to discuss utilizing frozen Russian assets for a 140-billion-euro financial aid to the Ukrainian nation.
Recently, US President Donald Trump called on international partners to take or utilize frozen Russia's assets, based on reports.
The value of seized Russian assets in the European Union is calculated to be approximately €211bn.

The Russian government launched extensive missile and drone strikes all over Ukraine on recently, resulting in power cuts in many areas of the capital city, the city, and multiple additional areas.

In a post on X following the attack, Zelensky wrote that the strategic strike targeted non-military and power facilities.

"Each restrictive measure undermines Moscow's military apparatus," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.
Also on Friday, Zelensky informed the press he would urge Sir Keir to enter the PURL programme, under which alliance members buy military equipment from the US to give to the Ukrainian forces.
While praising the Britain's consistent assistance for Ukraine, he remarked it should send a clear signal that it would take part in the system, as well as enforce additional sanctions on the Russian Federation.
