Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Warriors Group

Ever since the premiere of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept fans guessing with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a exciting storyline showcasing divine entities, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in influence within Dol-Makjar.

Note: Key plot points for the latest installment of the new season follow below.

The Warrior Group Unveiled

The latest chapter ended with a huge suspense moment and introduced the premier party of adventurers who will branch out from the main group to embark on their own adventure, distinct from the additional parties.

The Soldiers table consists of Teor (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (Laura), Tyranny (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

With a large ensemble, it was obvious from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

Hence, the first four episodes of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the individual narratives before branching into three smaller tables: Warriors, Planners, and Questers.

Characteristics of the Combat Party

As described by the Dungeon Master, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a classically intense fight-heavy gameplay experience where diplomatic options are few and far between.

At first glance, characters like the squeamish cleric Wicander might seem out of place, but the actions of episode 3 demonstrate why these five characters are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

First, the group understands precisely where to go next after a intense initial meeting with the antagonists.

An old friend of Thjazi Fang—whose death started the story’s plot—used The Crow Keepers for his selfish purposes, breaking into Thjazi’s hideout, assaulting Thimble, and taking all the magical artifacts to auction.

The traitor then settled his debts and escaped to a fortified location in the remote area, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Character Drivers

Secondly, each member has a personal reason to depart Dol-Makjar:

  • The agile hero, as the companion and trusted friend, wants retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with Timmony and cautions that it is a hostile location.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having disobeyed his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
  • Yet, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party enter places they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, The fighter vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the powers that govern the city for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The rogue and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and The cleric betrayed the powerful family and the army of fiends they are aligned with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to travel to the remote area in pursuit of the antagonist.

What’s Next?

Based on episode three’s post-show segment, we discover that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight players to round up the Questers and Schemers parties.

Viewers can anticipate learning which players will be in which group in Campaign 4’s last Overture episode, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
