The distinguished UK star Mirren, previously holder of an Oscar, several BAFTA honors, Globes trophies, multiple Emmy accolades, along with a Tony Award, is poised to receive another prestigious accolade to her collection: the Cecil B. DeMille Globes' lifetime honor.

Ceremony Details

Mirren, 80, previously honored as a dame during 2003 and named a BAFTA fellow in 2014, will receive this honor in a ceremony January 8, shortly before the main Golden Globes take place, during an event billed by the organization as the “Golden Eve”.

This will also include the presentation of the Globes’ Carol Burnett award for TV work, the honoree for which remains unannounced. Last year’s winners were Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Dame Helen represents a powerhouse performer, and her professional journey is nothing short of remarkable,” stated Helen Hoehne, the Globes’ leader. “Her captivating roles and commitment to her craft continue to inspire countless performers and viewers as well. It’s a tremendous privilege to present her with this lifetime achievement honor.”

Career Highlights

Mirren rose to fame back in the 70s via important performances in stage productions in London’s theater district and through the Royal Shakespeare Company and in cinematic works such as O Lucky Man!, Caligula & The Long Good Friday.

During the nineties, her prominent part in the investigative show Prime Suspect increased her popularity significantly. Other key films feature Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park and Calendar Girls.

She won an Oscar for her role as the Queen in the cinematic work The Queen, a part she returned to back in 2013 for The Audience, the theatrical work from Peter Morgan about the meetings involving the monarch and prime minister the former PM, a role for which she earned a Tony during 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• Subsequent cinematic works feature Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda and Barbie, where she served as narrator.
• Mirren’s turn in the Netflix version for The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and honors speculation is increasing around her performance as a dying matriarch in Winslet’s directorial debut, Goodbye June.
• In the coming year, she will appear portraying Patricia Highsmith in Corbijn’s dramatic film, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nominations are set to be revealed on 8 December, featuring the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, Zhao’s Hamnet and Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
