Man That Touched Ariana Grande during Premiere Prohibited from Singapore
An individual of Australian nationality that leaped over a barricade and reached for actress Ariana Grande has been sent away and banned from Singapore.
Johnson Wen, aged 26, was handed a penalty to more than a week in detention for causing a public disturbance and has now been "barred from re-entering Singapore," the Immigration and Checkpoints Authority told local media.
He forced his way past photographers and rushed toward the performer and artist, who was participating in the Asian premier for the film on November 13. Co-performer Cynthia Erivo pulled him back from Grande.
He has a background of interrupting performances and high-profile gatherings, including leaping onto the platform at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in June this year.
The occurrence caused anger in Singapore, with several individuals saying he of causing further distress to the star.
The pop star has spoken of dealing with post-traumatic stress disorder after a explosive incident at her performance in the English city in several years ago took the lives of 22 people and hurt numerous attendees.
During Wen's trial, the authorities learned he had made efforts to breach on the red carpet event multiple times, according to regional reports.
He then made a second attempt to cross the barriers. Security staff intercepted him and held him in place.
The man subsequently shared recordings expressing gratitude to the star for allowing his presence and said he was "released."
Law enforcement took him into custody the following day and accused him with public nuisance, to which he confessed.
The Presiding Judge the magistrate was cited by media reports as saying that Wen was "attention seeking", commenting that he was wrong to assume he would not face any penalties.
The actress has not commented on the case.
Cynthia Erivo discussed the incident to a media outlet, remarking that she "just wanted to verify my co-star was safe."
"I believe he didn't mean us danger, but you can't predict with these incidents, and I wanted to make sure that she was OK. That was my first instinct," she stated.
