Norris Tops Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at all of the last five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the dying seconds of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
The British racer, who grabbed the title advantage from Piastri by a single point after his victory in Mexico City recently, beat the Australian by a mere 0.023s.
Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the leading McLaren throughout the hour before the sprint shootout scheduled for 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, ended up in 17th position as his team ran a unique setup.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he lost control at Turn Four soon after starting.
Tsunoda spun out over the exit kerbs before sliding over the run-off area, and was lucky to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the conclusion of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner before the final corner on to the start-finish straight.
Hamilton finished practice in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's car in third, 0.619secs behind Piastri's pace.
The Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with the Sauber of Bortoleto in front of the Mercedes of George Russell and the Alpine of Gasly and the Williams of Carlos Sainz.
