In a decisive runoff election, ultra-conservative politician José Antonio Kast has secured the top job in Chile.

A Resounding Triumph

After more than 99% of ballots counted, Kast won 58.17% of the ballots, overcoming leftist candidate Jeannette Jara, who obtained 41.83%.

This marks Kast's third presidency, having in the past been defeated by the current president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 runoff.

Known for his strong socially conservative views and admiration for the era of dictator Augusto Pinochet, Kast's electoral bid was mostly focused on promises to tackle growing violence and radically reduce immigration.
